Our COVID-19 Response
All in-person worship services temporarily suspended
From the Elders - Our COVID-19 Response (Updated 3/20/2020)
As you look around at the websites of the various churches of Christ, you will probably observe the vast spectrum of ways that different congregations are addressing the CO-19 crisis. And, as we have noted in our earlier update, the news coming out on the virus changes almost daily. We will continue to follow the news and guidance from the national authorities, as well as those locally here in the CSRA. Through this challenging period, and with a great deal of discussion and prayer, we have never taken our eyes and hearts off the objectives of glorifying God and edifying one another.
While prayerfully focusing on our stewardship of the flock at the Martinez church, the elders have decided to temporarily suspend all in-person worship services and classes, effective immediately.
Consequently, for the remainder of March (beginning with Sunday, March 22nd), we have suspended meeting at the church building for worship service. This decision will be in place through the end of March, at which time we will reassess the situation and make any necessary changes.
During that time, however, we want to stay connected with each other and strongly recommend the actions describe below. We will continue to observe our regular meeting times via live streaming the services from the Martinez Church Facebook account:
9:00 am - Bible class (via Facebook Live. We will continue our study of the Gospel of Luke taught by D. Jimmerson, N. Lankford, and G. Powell.)
10:00 am – Lord’s Supper (Led by one of the men. Members tuning in will be encouraged to secure their own communion elements (bread and fruit of the vine) so they can partake at the same time as the Lord’s Table Leader.)
10:30 am – Sermon
6:00 PM - Evening sermon or class(by Various Men - via Facebook Live)
7:00 - Bible class (Gospel of Luke via Facebook Live)
In addition to the regular services above, you may want to observe the information:
- Mike and Jeanne Bickle are developing a curriculum for the Young Adult and children classes to allow parents to continue their spiritual education and training at home.
- We hope all members will participate in the Encouragement Network as described in a previous email.
- Members can submit their weekly contribution here.
We solicit your prayers and encouragement as we make these difficult decisions during these challenging times. If you have any questions, please contact the elders or Philip. Finally, please pray and look out for each other, making sure that none of our saints do without the necessary essentials. Remember Corinthian 10:13 – “There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.”
